V = L × W × t; m = V × ρ; mₜ = m × q

Volume per plate V = length × width × thickness. Mass per plate m = Vρ. Total mass = m × quantity. SI calculation uses dimensions in m and density in kg/m³.

Worked example

A 1,000 × 500 × 10 mm plate has a volume of 0.005 m³. At a nominal carbon steel density of 7,850 kg/m³, one plate weighs 39.25 kg; two plates weigh 78.50 kg.

How it works

The calculator treats each plate as a solid rectangular block with uniform density. Material presets provide nominal values for an estimate. Use the density for your actual alloy when it is available.

Common questions

Are the material densities exact?

No. Presets are nominal estimates. Density varies by alloy and condition; use a supplier or material specification value with custom density when available.

Does the calculator subtract holes or cutouts?

No. It calculates a solid rectangular plate. Subtract the removed volume and its corresponding mass separately for a plate with cutouts.
